APOLOGY FOR RECTITUDE

The apology for rectitude is a historical and general report which enables us to analyze the extent to which the ideology of rectitude, symbolically male, has led to the depreciation of all that can be linked to the back (verso), to the exclusive benefit of what is rectilinear and associated with the front (recto). Dualistic construction (chap.1) has led to a language adapted to this ideology which took off in the XVII century (chap.2). 'Straight' values are largely associated with power even if reality can often appear to be 'curved' or even twisted (chap.3).

DUALISTIC CONSTRUCTION

Does the existence of a front (recto) and a back (verso) come from a bipolar understanding of the world, the fundations of which are made up of opposites? The French language makes it possible to express this understanding as well as possible by offering a whole range of antagonistic terms.

In the following table, we propose some of the relationships between antagonistic terms that we think significantly illustrate this dualistic construction.
